Life on Water

This is the first entry on a series that I am going to do. I was hesitant for a while to do a BLOG, because I thought, "Who looks at BLOGS?" Well, alot of people do. People have found a new way to journal their lives and let other people learn and be apart of other lives. This can only be good.

In the old days, conscientious individuals journal their lives and experiences for their own good. This gives one the ability to reflect on what has happened and what you have learned or what you enjoy in your life experiences.

Over the last couple years, Marty and I have enjoyed new and old acquaintances to a degree that is hard to explain. The more we know of the people in our lives, the more we want to know.

I remember an old TV series called "The Highlander". We hardly watch TV, but the gruesome point of the TV series was about immortals, who lived longer by beheading another Immortal. When they beheaded them, they assumed all the power and knowledge of the other.

I hate to use this example, but I think it is what life is all about. The more people that we meet and the more we know about them, the richer our own lives are. And! We pass it on to the people we relate to!

Back to the point of this " Life on Water" Series.

As I have said many times, everyone of my wedding clients have given me so much. I am going to continue talking about them in my wedding series, but I have to talk about this new subject. The people we have met on the water. I am going to start treating them like my wedding people. I want to chronicle and record what my experience is with them.

Since we have begun spending alot of our time on the water, we have come to know so many wonderful people. It seems life is much more intense here. The people that are out here are here because of many reasons. Some love the environment, fresh air and water. Some love the independence. Some want to escape. Some want adventure, Some want romance and some just can't live anywhere else.

I should have started this series sooner, because I am skipping over alot of the great people we have met.

I this first series, I want to talk about Chris, Karen, Ella and their dog Skipper.

A couple days after we first anchored out of Coconut Grove, a guy and his dog motored up in his dingy and struck conversation about how much he liked catamarans. He mentioned he and his wife had a charter business http://www.paddlewild.com/taking clients on sailing and kayaking trips in the Bay area and in the Bahamas, but was looking to maybe buy a catamaran for the next boat.

I invited him (Chris) on the boat and he liked what he saw. I soon found that he was born on a boat and has never lived on land. He does boat restoration and and His wife, Karen, works at the local High class grocery and kayaks about a mile to get there. They have a 2 year old , Ella, and Karen is now expecting another. They are deeply spiritual. When things get weird, I don't hesitate to call them, they always know what to do.

Please see their pictures.

Another couple have grown to love is Lisa and Gary Eckis. They are real estate people from Buffalo and have taken 8 months off to bring their new catamaran 4200 miles from South Africa and explore the US east coast and Bahamas.

Gary and another friend Lew where on their dingies in a moment when a storm came though with 40 Knot winds a couple weeks ago when another boat broke free of their anchor and got tangled with our boat. I cannot tell you how intense it was. They didn't have to take such a chance, leaving their own boats braving high winds and seas in little dingies to come help me.

When Marty was here, we spent some time with Gary and Lisa and we can't wait to spend more time with them. They are sailing for another month, then they are going back to Buffalo for 6 months and getting back on the boat to go to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. They want us to go with them.

The pictures of them are when we sailed (motored against the wind) to Ft Lauderdale. We had a day with them before we went to Amanda and Roiby's wedding in Delray Beach. How lucky are we?

It was hard to say goodbye the next day.

Amanda and Roy's Wedding March 8

It was great to have Marty back in Fla for a few days, and one of the highlights was shooting Amanda and Roy's wedding at Sundy House in Delray Beach. Of course the biggest highlight was our own anniversary on the 5th. Even though Marty missed it by 10 minutes when her plane was 2 hours late. We celebrated through the rest of the weekend.

Amanda and Roy are art directors and graphic artists and I felt honored to shoot their wedding. They are as cute as they get and easy to photograph. Light and time was an issue, so they desided to see each other so they can do some photos before it got dark.

It was paradise in every sense of the word. Not only where they fun to shoot, the Sundy house was a real paradise! (http://www.sundyhouse.com/) Even though it is in downtown Delray Beach, it felt like we where on a tropical island with water falls, every kind of flower and even some bamboo. We got some great shots, even the ceremony was held next to the pool which gave us great reflections. The service and friendly staff, especially Dustin, gives us incentive to go there just for dinner and drinks sometime.

Amanda did much of the decorating and it was amazing. The colors, flowers and art work meshed perfectly. A great setting for a reception that was comfortable and friendly. The music was provided by Mariana Martin who came from Miami and gave the guests great entertainment with her Brazilian Jazz type music. Love it. Her site is http://www.marianamarting.com/.

A great wedding by all standards!
